Options:
- Choose what to (re)build: wheelset or single wheel
- Choose the number of total spokes for your wheelset (44, 48, 52, 56, 60, or 64) or single wheel (20, 24, 28, 32, 36)
- Choose spoke color: white or black
- Default spoke nipples are Sapim's aluminum 16mm Double Square Polyax with Secure Lock in black
Shipping: Find a box and pay for shipping your wheels, hubs, or rims to Berd. Please indicate your order number on the package when shipping. Ensure all loose components including tires, disc brake rotors, valves, tape, cassette, etc. are removed prior to shipping. Do not remove the freehub body or end caps from the hubs, as these are necessary for proper wheel building.
Disclaimers:
- Hubs that are not J-bend or standard tangential straight pull must be pre-approved by Berd prior to sending.
- All rims must have access holes (centered over spoke holes) that allow tensioning from the tire side of the rim.
- We are unable to rebuild many "system" wheelsets with proprietary spoke/hub/rim systems, along with all wheels that use radially laced, straight pull hubs.
- Some rims are front and/or rear specific. Please notify us of these situations before the build is started to ensure that the wheels are built correctly.
- Some hubs require modifying the hub flange, which may void the warranty of your hub manufacturer.
- Please contact us with any questions about these situations or if you need something that is not listed.
- On single wall or shallow rims, the spokes & nipples have a chance of protruding into the rim bed, which can lead to tire/tube failure. Please ensure that there is proper clearance between the rim bed and spoke bed before ordering.
Backed by Berd's 5-Year Limited Warranty
These are the roundest wheels that I've ever seen. The spoke tension (measured with an FFT analyzer) is incredibly even. Berd undercharged me for the wheel build and included a requested tool plus extra nipples at no charge.
I can't give any before/after objective comments because these were much narrower wheels and tires, with a 50mm larger OD, than I normally run. After 200 miles, my gut reaction is that the high frequency impact harshness is less than it would be with metal spokes.
The only thing that could be improved is if Berd published the actual OD of the spoke nipples that they use for building. This would have allowed me to drill out the nipple holes in the rims to the correct ID so that the spokes don't end up bent once tensioned. I know that it probably only has a very small difference in fatigue life, but the bent spokes look crappy.
Holding up under my abuse so far. Definitely a different feel to how the wheels react to the ground and my weight, but in a good way I can't really describe. Going to ride the Keweenaw Peninsula next week and put them to yhe test, but I expect they won't disappoint.
I had Berd rebuild my wheels for cyclocross season last year and wow! They worked through my options with me and delivered a beautiful wheelset that rides so much nicer. I dropped 250g on the set and the spokes made such a difference on training and race days.
So far these newly built wheels feel crazy cool. The lower rotational weight is noticeable. Need more timeon the for longevity and wear.
