Berd's new HAWK27 wheels are the product of a partnership between Berd and We Are One Composites to deliver spokes and rims made entirely in North America. We Are One is located in Kamloops British Columbia, Canada, and Berd is located in Hopkins, MN.

Ideal for cross country and trail racing and riding, the new HAWK27 wheels combine lightweight and vibration damping Berd spokes with 27 mm internal carbon rims.

The HAWK27 rims are only 18 mm deep, which are the lowest profile 27 mm internal double-wall carbon rims ever made. This unique design yields engineered radial compliance and high lateral stiffness. The combination of vibration damping Berd spokes and our new radial compliant rim means more speed over rough terrain and less rider fatigue.

With a wide 3.75 mm rim lip, Berd's new rims spread out tire/rim impacts across a larger surface area to prevent tire and rim damage during acute impacts.

The HAWK27 wheelset is built around our flagship Berd Talon Hub featuring hooked hub flanges designed to work specifically with Berd spokes along with a dual-sprung 54t ratchet freehub.

HAWK27 is also available with Boost Industry Nine Solix Centerlock hubs, delivering almost instantaneous engagement, long-term reliability, and an impressively low weight. Superboost wheels will be built using the Industry Nine Hydra hubs.

These Berd wheels are also available to be ordered using the Onyx Hook Flange Hub System. This option is available in 12x142 (including single speed), 12x148, and 12x157 super boost rear spacing. Please allow up to 4-6 weeks for delivery of wheels with Onyx hubs.

Smooth and smooth

I've been on these wheels for 10 months and I've really enjoyed them. The wheels are incredibly smooth. I think the shallow rims + Berd spokes are to thank for that. The extra material on the rim where the tire bead interfaces is smart. I haven't had a pinch flat yet despite lower than average tire pressures. Rim construction puts it squarely in the downcountry category and I ride ride them as such. Sending drops, jumps, and pumping through compressions (often with rock armoring here in NW Arkansas) and they've been flawless. I'll be riding these for many years to come!

Pricey AF, but you do really get what you pay for

Yep these things cost quite a bit, but they do deliver on performance per dollar. Everything is unbelievably light. Definitely a difference in vibration damping through the front fork (I have a short travel bike).

Would recommend if you're looking to lighten things up, and a lifetime crash warranty is hard to beat!

You won’t regret it

Put a set of these on my new Commencal Tempo. I’m running a new Forecaster on the front and Recon on the back. Rim width is perfect. I went for these for the weight as I wanted a “light” trail bike. The bike landed at 27lb which was great for me. I’ve ridden this bike on trails that I should have been on my enduro bike with no issues. The wheels are stiff in the chunk and more importantly around fast berms. Yet they take out the high frequency vibrations. I have the best from I9 and Nobl on other bikes, but these are my favorite. I would buy them again.

Thanks for the review Tommy, we're glad to hear that you're enjoying your wheels!

Traction and Compliant like no other

I have a 2022 Ibis Ripley AF and I rode the Hawk 27 3x over the weekend: Fri/Sat/Sun, and on my first ride, I wasn’t sure what was happening on the climb. For some odd reason, I had climbing traction up my local trail which had 27-29% loose gravel climb for 1/8 of a mile. Usually on my ENVE M630, I would find the smoothest line because I don’t have any traction in the rear wheel. The traction I get from the Hawk27 is like having low pressure 27.5x2.8 size tires but yet it feels lighter, easy to spin and keep momentum like I was on 27.5 wheels! I was in disbelief that I had to take it to some wet trails sprinkled with roots and rocks the following day, and what do you know? The confidence level climbing wet tech stuff was just high because it had the climbing traction like my low pressure 2.8 size tires! This I didn’t expect.

This bike has a very bouncy rear end that I thought of switching my FOX DPS shock to a FOX Float X, but not anymore after using this Hawk 27. The rear end just feels very compliant, damped and supple when going over highspeed chattery stuff such as golf to tennis ball size rocks. The rear end just stays planted like and not bouncy anymore. The bike stays composed and I never felt the 27mm was “too narrow” for my 2.4 size Maxxis Rekon/Dissector. It was perfect! This is such a great product added in the MTB world! Thank you BERD Spokes!!
