Berd Builder's Consumables Kits are not included and required for building J-bend or straightpull hubs.  Each Consumables Kit includes rods for spoke loops (68), wire with loop ends (4), rubber polishing bits (3), and Berd wheel stickers (2); enough for 64 spoke builds.

Berd PolyLight™ spokes are ideal for all cycling disciplines including mountain, gravel, road, and fat bike wheels.

  • Use Berd spoke length calculator for calculating lengths
  • Weight: (64 pcs x 260mm) 156 g
  • Available lengths: 240 - 315 mm in 1 mm increments
  • Compatible with standard J-bend hubs
  • Notice: Black spokes can be very difficult to pull through tangential straight pull hubs. It is recommended that white spokes are coated black after building using the Black Berd Spoke Coloring Kit.
  • 14 gauge (2.0mm) stainless threaded connection at rim (has flat section that is held with a special tool to prevent twisting)
  • Integral eyelet for connection to J-bend or straight-pull hubs
  • Double square secure lock nipples recommended (sold separately)
  • Tangential straightpull hubs require tangential straightpull inserts (sold separately)
  • Must purchase a Berd Builder's Kit (one-time purchase, sold separately)
  • Berd Builder's Consumables Kits must be ordered for wheels built with J-Bend or Tangential Straight Pull hubs. If you are building wheels using Hook Flange Hubs these kits are not necessary. These kits include the following -  Rods for spoke loops (68), Wire with loop ends (4), rubber polishing bits (3), and Berd wheel stickers (2).
  • Backed by Berd's 5-Year Limited Warranty

TECHNOLOGY
Berd spokes are made from an advanced polymer called ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) that has 15 times the strength-to-weight ratio of steel and floats on water. Berd spokes have an improved fatigue life compared to steel and are impervious to the elements.

Berd is Blissful!

I was skeptical. Now, I'm a believer. First off, I'm not a racer. But, I ride the local trails pretty hard.
I had a carbon rear wheel rebuilt with Berd spokes after I broke a DT Swiss bladed. So, the rebuild only consisted of swapping in Berds and swapping out DT bladed.
First noticeable thing was the rear wheel weight. It dropped about 60 grams or so. It's not much, but upon riding, the wheel felt very different. It spun up very easily when I put power to the pedal. Note that I'm not a pedal masher.
But, even more interesting, was that the wheel felt more balanced while riding. It felt like it was more connected to the bike. Hard to explain...
Anyhow, another bonus for me, was that the hub noise was reduced. The poly spokes dampen sound a bit. I hate hearing noises coming from my bike, but I know that others won't find this a benefit.
Lastly, the high speed vibrations of trail riding were reduced. I think that also has to do with poly vs steel spokes. I think this is the biggest benefit and why I'd build with Berds again. It takes enough of the edge off of trail riding that there's less rider fatigue over longer distances.
The only downside to installing Berds over bladed spokes is that I did feel some higher air resistance at higher speeds and during windy days.

Worth every penny

Worth every penny. Noticeably better traction through the damping properties.

I love your spokes! I think light weight is cool and all, but 12 times stronger really got my attention. I’ve been running a Berd setup for about a year with 1 spoke broke because of a stick. But really happy. Let me know if there’s a sale. 😜
