Berd's HAWK30 wheels are the product of a partnership between Berd and We Are One Composites to deliver spokes and rims made in North America. We Are One is located in Kamloops British Columbia, Canada, and Berd is located in Hopkins, MN.
Light enough for XC racing but tough enough for gnarly trail rips and enduro runs, the HAWK30 wheels combine lightweight and vibration damping Berd spokes with 30 mm internal carbon rims.
The HAWK30 rims are only 18 mm deep. This unique design yields engineered radial compliance and high lateral stiffness. The combination of vibration damping Berd spokes and our new radial compliant rim means more speed over rough terrain and less rider fatigue.
With a wide 3.75 mm rim lip, Berd's new rims spread out tire/rim impacts across a larger surface area to prevent tire and rim damage during acute impacts.
The HAWK30 wheelset is built around either our flagship Berd Talon Hub featuring hooked hub flanges designed to work specifically with Berd spokes along with a dual-sprung 54t ratchet freehub.
You can also choose from Industry Nine J-Bend or Onyx Vesper Hook Flange hubs. Available in all standard colors offered by Onyx and Industry Nine, make your wheels your own! Please allow 3-6 weeks for all Industry Nine and Onyx orders.

I was not planning on purchasing these wheels as I didn't think a rider at my level would really appreciate them. Long story short I found myself in need of a wheelset and living close to Berd they were the only folks who could get me back on my bike quickly. The purchase process was great, the staff was responsive and answered all my questions and I had new wheels on my bike in a couple of days. As for the wheels they are amazing, and it turns out I can very much appreciate what they do for ride quality. Dealing with Berd =A++. Wheels= A++
P.S. I'm not dialed into the MTB tech world and the only reason I knew to call Berd was from Syd and Mackey.
The second I put these wheels on I could feel an instant difference. Not only is uphill accelerations easier and the bike lighter, but there is instantly noticeable compliance that feels like gaining a little bit of suspension in all directions. I have alllll the other fancy things, but these wheels are the most noticeable change I’ve made to my bike. 100% recommend.
I thought they were going to be incredible. When I rode them, they exceeded every expectation.
I have the Hawk30 wheels on a 120mm hardtail. I have been using the bike on a lot of the trails that I used to use a 135mm full suspension bike on. While I cant ride over the roughest stuff as fast as that bike. I do have more traction and comfort in my hands with these wheels than most other wheels I have tried. The only other wheels I rode that seemed similar in traction and comfort weighed 500+ grams more than these wheels. With the hardtail the rear wheel takes more abuse than a full suspension but it seems to handle it well.
I have been very happy with these hubs and wheels!
