Which Category Is Right for You?
Beginner/Novice
For riders who are new to cyclocross racing. If you're an experienced road or mountain bike competitor, consider Intermediate even if you're new to cyclocross. Please keep this field to beginners only.
Intermediate
For riders who aren't new to cyclocross, or who are experienced road or mountain bike competitors, and want a moderate-length race. A good fit for masters and junior racers.
Advanced
For experienced cyclocross racers who want the longest race of the night.
FTW Non-Binary
For any rider who self-identifies as femme, transgender, woman or non-binary.
Singlespeed & Tracklocross
Singlespeed and tracklocross riders can race in any category.
The course stays mostly the same each week, with slight variations. It uses most of the XC ski trails, so expect plenty of climbing and descending. About 85% of the course is lit, but a handlebar or helmet light is still mandatory for the darker spots and any short singletrack sections.
License & Equipment
- No USA Cycling license is required. This is not a USA Cycling series, so results are not sent to USA Cycling and no USAC points are awarded.
- Any bike is welcome, as long as it's safe and in good working order.
- A helmet is required any time you are on your bike, including warm-ups and pre-ride.
- A handlebar-mounted or helmet-mounted light is mandatory for every racer. The course is lit, but you will not be allowed to start without your own light.
- Handlebar ends must be plugged.
Check-In
- Every racer must sign the event waiver. Riders under 18 need a parent or guardian signature.
- Pin your race number where it is clearly visible, as directed at check-in.
On Course
- Between races, you may pre-ride the course once the first rider finishes the previous race. Do not pass riders who are still completing their lap.
Conduct
- Race officials' decisions are final.
- Respect volunteers, spectators and the venue. Pack out what you bring in.
Your finishing places from all three races are added together, and the rider with the lowest total in each category after October 27 wins the Roadrunner Cup. For example, finishing 2nd, 1st and 3rd gives you a total of 6.
- To be eligible for the series standings, you must start all three races: October 13, 20 and 27.
- Series categories are Beginner/Novice, FTW Non-Binary, and Intermediate/Advanced. The Kids race is not scored.
- If you change categories during the series, you are no longer eligible for series standings.
- Juniors race free and are scored in the category they choose.
- Ties are broken by the better finish at the final race on October 27, then by the most race wins.
The series winner in each category wins a secret prize.
- A bike in good working order and a helmet
- A handlebar or helmet light (required to race)
- Safety pins (we'll have some, but bring your own if you can)
- Warm layers and a change of clothes for after the race
- Water and a snack
- Lawn chair and cowbell if you're spectating
I've never raced cyclocross. Can I race?
Yes. Beginner is made for riders new to cyclocross. If you already race road or mountain bikes, consider Intermediate. Pre-riding the course before your race is the best way to learn the features.
What bike do I need?
Any bike is welcome. Cyclocross, gravel and mountain bikes all work. We just ask that it's safe and in good working order.
Do I need a USA Cycling license?
No. The Roadrunner Cup is not a USA Cycling series, so no license is needed and no USAC points are awarded.
Can I register on race night?
Pre-registration closes at 11 AM through RunSignup. You can still register day of. You will need to pre-register through Endurance Promotions before, though. There will be a small additional fee for registration at the event.
Will it be dark?
Races run into the evening. About 85% of the course is lit, and every racer must also have a handlebar or helmet light for the darker spots.
What happens if it rains?
Unfortunately there is a possibility that we'll need to cancel if the course is soaking wet. We know, not the spirit of CX, but we need to follow the park's rules. All riders will be refunded if the race is cancelled, and we'll post any cancellation at the top of this page. Have a park in mind that will allow us to ride even if the weather isn't good? Let us know and we can try and get that park reserved for next year.
Is there a Junior category?
No. Juniors (18 or younger) choose whichever category best suits their skills, and they race free.
Can I race just one night?
Yes. Each race stands on its own. To compete for the series title, you need to start all three races.
